Recruitment
After the conclusion of the Zen Exhibition Match, Champa calls a video meeting of all the Gods of Destruction from his location in the Universe 6 Kaiōshin Realm. He tells them that the Kaiōshin have just had a meeting, and asks the other Gods of Destruction whether they are planning anything shady for the Tournament of Power. Rumoosh scoffs, and Helles says they would never do anything so ugly. Sidra seems angry, Vermoud laughs, and Quitela says that of course they will not cheat; if the Omni-Kings were to find out, they would be erased. With Camparri interpreting, Mosco asks why they have not invited Beerus, and Helles seconds his question. Champa does not want to answer, but Quitela surmises that Beerus was not invited because Son Goku is from his universe, and the tournament was his idea.

Vados reminds everyone that they are in Goku's debt; if he had not proposed the tournament, then all of their universes would have been erased; Goku has given them a chance to survive. Sidra is unconvinced; watching Goku at the Zen Exhibition Match irritated him greatly. Rumoosh agrees; Goku's irreverence with the Omni-Kings was unforgivable. Even still, Helles finds Goku to be very attractive. Some time later, Sidra and Mohito check in on the Trio de Dangers, who are trying to recruit fighters for the Tournament of Power, but the world they have visited has erupted in violent chaos. Mohito asks what is going on, and Basil apologizes while Lavenda explains that news of the universe's impending destruction has led to riots. Bergamo says that these people intend to abandon Universe 9 for another universe, which seems to make Mohito angry. Sidra asks how many warriors they have managed to recruit, and Basil tells him none. This makes Mohito even angrier, and Sidra uses Destruction on the rioting city, reducing it to a crater. Still later, Quitela contacts Sidra with a crystal ball and tells him that Universe 7 plans to go after Universe 9 first in the Tournament of Power. A villain named Freeza is about to join up with Goku and the others, and if they take him out before he can join the team, it will cause Universe 7 to be disqualified. Sidra worries that the Omni-Kings will find out; Quitela says they only have to avoid getting directly involved, and suggests Sidra use hitmen from his universe. Quitela says he will see Sidra at the Tournament of Power, sans Universe 7.

Rou then researches Freeza on GodTube and learns that Freeza is a truly cold-blooded villain. Sidra asks him what he thinks about Quitela's suggestion, and Rou thinks they should not hesitate to act on it. Sidra is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Sidra makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the God of Destruction of Universe Nine.

Biography

Sidra is indecisive and normally cannot bring himself to destroy anything, often suffering from depression due to his responsibilities,[2] but he destroyed an entire planet of people who rioted in fear of the destruction of their universe.[3]

Zen Exhibition Match

Sidra's character design for the Tournament of Power.[3]

When the Great Priest informs the gods of each universe about the upcoming Tournament of Power, he invites them to attend the Zen Exhibition Match to sate the curiosity of the Omni-King from the future, who has never seen a martial arts tournament. Universe 9 is asked to participate in the tournament and bring three fighters to compete against warriors from Universe 7. Sidra, Mohito, and Rou bring the Trio de Dangers to the Omni-King's palace where they encounter the representatives of Universe 7 in the corridor. Shin greets them, noting that they have not seen each other in some time.

With everyone present, the Great Priest creates an arena in a void that appears to be located beneath the Omni-King's palace, and the Universe 9 representatives fall onto a platform situated on one side of the fighting stage, across from the Universe 7 platform. Then the Great Priest brings in the gods from all the other universes to observe the match. When Goku speaks casually to the Omni-Kings, calling them "Zen-chan", Sidra says that he never would have believed Universe 7 would have someone so disrespectful, and Rou says he has never seen the like.[4] When Basil delivers what should be a fatal blow to Majin Boo in the first fight of the tournament, but Boo does not appear to be harmed, laughing at the hole in his gut, Sidra finds him to be very unusual, but Rou tells him that there are plenty of others like Boo in the universe. He is nevertheless as shocked as Sidra when Boo regenerates his body to continue fighting. As Basil pummels Boo, Sidra worries that he is taking it too far, but Rou only laughs. Boo finishes off Basil with a Kamehameha, and Sidra is shocked to see that Basil is still standing after the attack, but he soon collapses from exhaustion. Sidra tells Basil that his performance was pathetic.[5]

When the second match ends, Sidra and the other gods learn that losing universes will be erased in the Tournament of Power.[6] When Bergamo stands before the gods to condemn Goku and ask the Omni-Kings to reconsider their plan to erase the universes, Rou and Bergamo's brothers praise his speech, while Sidra compliments his persuasion powers. The Omni-Kings like Bergamo's speech and agree to his proposal. When Goku powers up to Super Saiyan Blue during the fight, Rou cannot believe that Goku has the power of a god, and Sidra realizes that this Goku should not be underestimated.[7]

Vermoud laughs again; he believes that Universe 7 is no match for the warriors of Universe 11, like the Pride Troopers and their leader Toppo.[8]

He tells them that this world is hopeless, and that they should go somewhere else.[9]

Still later, Quitela contacts Sidra with a crystal ball and tells him that Universe 7 plans to go after Universe 9 first in the Tournament of Power. This angers Sidra, and Quitela offers him the chance to crush Universe 7 before the tournament.

Sidra agrees, and says they should hurry to send assassins; Mohito hears this and seems amused. Some time later, Goku waits for the arrival of Freeza on Earth while assassins from Universe 9 lurk above.[10]

Tournament of Power

Name

Sidra's name comes directly from the katakana spelling of the Spanish word for "cider", shidra (シドラ/shidora). The word used to refer to alcoholic "cider" in Japanese is "cidre" (シードル/shīdoru). Cider is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermented juice of apples. Sidra's name pun follows the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages.[11]

Our first look at Akira Toriyama's design for Sidra.[12]

Production

According to "The Nearly Complete Works of Akira Toriyama", a series published on the official Dragon Ball website, Sidra was the first God of Destruction that Toriyama drew for the Universe Survival arc, and served as the basis for the rest.[13] The design was first revealed in the March 2017 issue of V-Jump along with his designs for Korn, the Angel of Universe Eight, Artificial Humans No. 17 and No. 18, and the tournament fighting stage.[12] It is however worth noting that, although Quitela's design was not revealed until the following month in the April 2017 issue of V-Jump,[1] series director Ryōta Nakamura claimed that Quitela was the first God of Destruction drawn by Toriyama.[14]

Performance

Sidra is voiced by Yasuhiro Mamiya, whose credits include the King of the planet half-destroyed by Beerus in Dragon Ball Super Episode 1, along with several roles in the Tournament of Power: Iwen, Jimizu, Roselle, Napapa, and Rubalt. In the FUNimation English dub, Sidra is voiced by Greg Dulcie in his first role for the Dragon Ball franchise.
