V-Jump Serialization

The Dragon Ball Super series is serialized in V-Jump (Vジャンプ), a monthly magazine established in 1993 by Shueisha focusing primarily on video games and various other multimedia materials. The series began serialization on 20 June 2015 in the magazine’s August 2015 issue.

Issue Date vs Sale Date

Being a continually running monthly magazine, each issue of V-Jump is categorized by its corresponding publication year and monthly issue number (i.e. 2015 #8, or August 2015). This “issue date” printed on the cover of each issue is merely for categorical purposes only and is not the actual date the issue is released. Until the beginning of the 21st century, the only way to find the official release date of a given issue was to check the preview for it in the previous issue. Fortunately, by the time Dragon Ball Super began its serialization, it was common practice for Shueisha to promote the actual sale date of each V-Jump issue online.

V-Jump 2018 #11 — On Sale 21 September 2018 (¥550)

Issues of V-Jump are typically released on the 21st of each month, barring a Sunday or a holiday, in which case it is moved up a day (or two, in the case that Monday is a holiday). There are very rare deviations from this schedule; for example, the February 2017 issue of V-Jump was released on 17 December 2016 to coincide with that weekend’s Jump Festa in Tokyo. Issues are released two months ahead of their issue date; for example, the May 2017 issue hit store shelves 21 March 2017.
