Chapter Synopsis

Freeza is still trying to figure out what he’s doing, while Goku thinks he needs “a little more…” The others are amazed at the size of the Genki-Dama, saying it looks to have a diameter of fifty meters. Kuririn realizes Goku must be gathering ki from other planets to make it that huge. Piccolo wonders why he hasn’t launch it already, but Kuririn says Goku probably thinks he needs a lot more ki to defeat Freeza. Freeza asks Goku if he’s planning something, or just raising his hands to say he’s giving in. Goku thinks, “I’m gathering the ki, but my time has run out — this is the Genki-Dama‘s weakness… Please don’t be seen, for just a little longer…!! I’m asking you…!!” Freeza asks how long he plans on keeping this up, but Goku just kind of laughs it off. Freeza gets pissed and flies over, kicking Goku in the face. Piccolo tells Kuririn and Gohan to give him (Piccolo) their remaining ki.

Goku stands back up and puts his hands in the air again, and tells Freeza not to be so impatient. Freeza says “don’t mock me”, and telekinetically knocks Goku backwards, into some water. Kuririn and Gohan each lend some of their ki to Piccolo, as Goku surfaces and hangs at the edge of the shore. Freeza is standing over him, and says how he’s never understood what Saiyans are thinking. Then Freeza says he longer wishes to continue this boring fight, and wants to finish off him, and this planet. After that, he’ll kill the other little Saiyan, to rid all Saiyans from existence. He says the “Super Saiyan” is nothing but a myth, but then he notices a reflection in the water behind Goku. “That’s not the sun…” Freeza looks up into the sky, spotting the Genki-Dama, realizing it’s some sort of huge energy mass, and that Goku had been creating it.

Piccolo tells them that’s enough, they need some for themselves still, and notes that the Genki-Dama‘s been discovered. He tells the two of them to stay here, no matter what, and then flies off. Goku curses the situation, as Freeza berates him about his last resort being all for nothing. Goku punches at Freeza, but Freeza catches his fist. He prepares to shoot Goku, but just then Piccolo suddenly kicks Freeza in the face, knocking him way down below the water. Piccolo tells Goku to hurry up and finish the Genki-Dama, since he used all of his power in that surprise attack. Freeza gets out of the water, and is very pissed at the Namekian.

Author’s Comment

  • Each issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump features short comments from the various series’ authors, giving fans a brief insight into their current thoughts, ranging from series-related announcements to trivial happenings in their personal lives. Akira Toriyama’s comments from this issue were:

My daughter was born last year, so starting on March 3rd, the Doll Festival will become an event close to my heart. <Akira>

The Doll Festival, or Hina-matsuri, is traditionally a celebration for little girls. Now that he had a daughter in the house, he would be celebrating it too. This is also one of the comments featured in Daizenshuu 7.
