Chapter Synopsis

Most of the audience starts to run away, as Bulma wonders what’s wrong with Vegeta. Bobbidi laughs that two hundred people are dead. Vegeta tells Kakarrot to fight him, unless he wants to add onto the mountain of corpses. Goku asks Vegeta if he didn’t let himself fall under Bobbidi’s spell on purpose. Vegeta says nothing, and then blows up another section of the crowd, almost hitting their friends. Goku glares at Vegeta, and then becomes Super Saiyan. Kaiōshin protests, but Goku ignores him. Goku asks Vegeta if he let himself become controlled by Bobbidi so that Goku would get serious.

“If I didn’t do this, you wouldn’t fight me. Things keep getting in the way, even though you’re only here for one day, and afterwards you’ll be completely gone from this world.” Kaiōshin says that’s a stupid thing to do for all of this. “Stupid thing?! A stupid thing, you say?! To me, that is everything!!! I don’t care about this Majin Boo crap!!! Him… He surpassed my strength!! While we’re both Saiyans, I was tossed aside!! The prince who took pride in his overwhelming power, me!!! H-he even saved my life!!! I can’t forgive him…!!!! At all…!!!!” It becomes silent, and then Goku yells at Bobbidi to change their location to one without people, so he can fight Vegeta.

Kaiōshin says they’ll have to go through him before they can fight, and everyone looks on in silence. Goku then puts up his hand, preparing to attack Kaiōshin, surprising even Vegeta, and so Kaiōshin backs down. Goku apologizes, as Bobbidi dances with glee and decides to change the location. “Papparapa!!!”, and they are suddenly transported out to a rocky desert place. Kaiōshin tells Goku and Vegeta to fight to their heart’s content, while he and Son Gohan will bust through this entrance to fight Bobbidi and Dabra. The shock of busting in could wake up Majin Boo, but that’s better than if he were at full power from absorbing their damage energy. Kaiōshin prepares to head into the ship, but Bobbidi tries to get Vegeta to kill him instead. After struggling a bit against Bobbidi’s influence, Vegeta says, “I refuse. Whatever Kaiōshin and Gohan do, it doesn’t concern my fight.”

Chapter Notes

Title Page

  • The title page for this chapter is not included in the tankōbon release. It is included in the kanzenban, but judging by the presence of the tagline and the inconsistency of the screen tone in the background, it appears that the original illustration was lost and the publishers were forced to use the version from Weekly Shōnen Jump itself.

Author’s Comment

  • Each issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump features short comments from the various series’ authors, giving fans a brief insight into their current thoughts, ranging from series-related announcements to trivial happenings in their personal lives. Akira Toriyama’s comments from this issue were:
    今年は,久びさに冬らしい冬だ。寒いのはきらいだけどね。この分だと夏は夏らしくなるね <明>

This year has been the first winter in a while that’s actually wintry. I hate the cold, though. With a winter like this, summer’s going to be summery. <Akira>

Page Breakdown

The majority of the Dragon Ball series was drawn in black and white, but chapters were occasionally published with color pages. This breakdown notes how many full-color, limited-color, and black-and-white pages appeared in this chapter. As the tankōbon volumes were not released with these colors intact, any color pages shown are taken from the kanzenban release.
