I really hate mice. I have no problem whatsoever with things like snakes and spiders, but with mice alone I’m no good. But then suddenly, our home has become a house of mice. We’ve caught 14 using sticky sheets alone, but there are still more. I can’t work, I’m in such fear. If there’s even a little bump or rustle, I can’t stay in my workroom. Because of that, my manuscripts these days have been on the late side….

Title Page Special Feature

As the tankōbon are compilations of pre-existing chapters, they are intended to be continuously read from beginning to end. Often times, any title pages not considered integral to the story, or due to page count issues between chapters, were moved to the back of the volume and collected in a special gallery following the volume’s final chapter. The gallery notes the title pages are “as they appeared in Weekly Shōnen Jump“, which include the original tag lines and “Bird Studio” logo. These features are typically removed from the title pages remaining in the volume’s main content.

Notes

• No chapter title pages were omitted from this volume.
• In the original table of contents image, author Akira Toriyama addressed the fact that Yajirobe makes two appearances on the tankōbon spine art:

  Here’s the table of contents. Come to think of it, Yajirobe appears on the comics spine picture twice, doesn’t he! I received a lot of letters saying that. I thought it was impossible, and checked out the comics, which I rarely see, and it turned out to be true. I’m really sorry.

  In May 2009, Shueisha revised the tankōbon covers with a new “refreshed” look. In conjunction with this update, Toriyama provided newly drawn spine art, which now featured only a single Yajirobe. As Toriyama’s original comment was no longer relevant, the table of contents image was replaced with one of Vegeta.
