"Universe Survival! The Tournament of Power Begins!" is the thirty-third chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga series written and illustrated by Toyotarō, with supervision and guidance from original Dragon Ball author Akira Toriyama. It was first published in Japan in the April 2018 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump, with a sale date of 21 February 2018.
Summary
Universe 7's Tournament of Power team arrives in the World of Void alongside teams from other universes. Vegeta and Gohan figure that their ability to fly will be an advantage, but as Whis correctly deduces, Goku is unable to fly when he tries to do so. This restriction is only on the competitors (as both Beerus and Whis are able to fly), and does not affect winged creatures from other universes; the gravity has also been independently adjusted according to each universe.
Champa and his team from Universe 6 arrive with Magetta already in tears from Caulifla's insults. Goku greets Hit, who has assumed that the tournament is a result of Goku's actions, and swears not to lose again. Cabba explains to Caulifla who these Saiyans are, including Vegeta, who taught him to become a Super Saiyan. Freeza and Frost exchange pleasantries, agreeing to team up.
Goku and Vegeta look toward Universe 11, assuming one of the warriors must be Jiren. Goku wanders over to say hello to Toppo and introduce himself to Jiren, who immediately dismisses Goku. Taking a look at their competition, Vermoud figures that everyone is far beneath their own Jiren.
The Great Priest greets all of the teams and introduces the two Omni-Kings, as Beerus and Shin take their seats and demand that their universe's team works together. Champa and Beerus take swipes at each other's teams, while Piccolo, Gohan, and the others are confused over a universe that appears to only have eight fighters.
The Great Priest explains the rules: the fight will last 100 taks (about 48 minutes in Earth time), the central pillar will descend as time passes (the fight is over when it reaches the bottom), no weapons are allowed, killing is forbidden, and the objective is to knock opponents out of the ring (who will then be warped into the stands).
The tournament begins, and as Gohan begins to prime everyone for teamwork, Goku, Vegeta, Freeza, No. 17, and No. 18 all rush out in different directions on their own. Right off the bat, No. 17 eliminates Murisam, Freeza eliminates Rubalt, No. 18 eliminates Prum and Jimizu, and Vegeta eliminates Catopesra and Nink. Goku is rushed by the majority of the Pride Troopers from Universe 11 all at once. Goku is forced to turn Super Saiyan and knocks them away, setting his own sights directly on Jiren.
As all of the fighters continue to clash, Freeza stops to speak with Frost, offering him a tip that the bald fighters on his own team should pose no problem and could be knocked out quickly. Frost questions Freeza's motives since reducing his team's numbers could result in a loss, but Freeza says he is only concerned with revenge on the Saiyans. Frost agrees to play along.
